One of the encouraging aspects of community
support in International Friendship Gardens has been the Volunteer
effort provided by institutions, business, churches, and
organizations.
Increasingly, these groups have been promoting
community service and are becoming aware that many benefits accrue
to participating members as well as to their organization, business,
institution, or church. How so? I am so glad you asked!
A typical business schedules for a full day of
raking, clearing, etc. It provides lunch to the Volunteer employees
and t-shirts. The International Friendship Gardens benefits but how
about the business?
Employees feel good about themselves and each
other; morale is high. They come to know each other better and are
closer due to the shared experience. They know they have made a
difference in the Gardens in a way that the whole community can
enjoy.
People who come through the Gardens hear about
the business that helped and tourists may be more apt to shop a
business that has a social conscience.
Churches have contributed community service in
the Gardens. Some congregations/parishioners are aware of the
ecological and botanical value of International Friendship Gardens
and, led by an enlightened religious leader, have contributed
significantly as a denominational church group of their time and
labor.
After all, before God made Man, he made a
garden – Paradise, and the closest we can come to it in our area is
International Friendship Gardens.
