Welcome to Friendship Botanic Gardens, where forested woodlands, sprawling open spaces, and cultivated gardens spill over 105 acres of land that have been a tourist destination since 1936! Gardens are tucked throughout the beautiful valley of Trail Creek.
The Gardens have a vast selection of nature and wildlife. Visit Lake Lucerne, a spring fed lake and home to muskrats, geese and turtles. Take a walk or hike through the woods that are home to deer, groundhogs, squirrels and wild turkeys. Birds can be heard singing songs in the quiet of this valley surrounded by hills.
The grounds are accessed by walking earthen trails and lawns. Self-guiding garden tours and nature trails delight and inform visitors. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
Friendship Botanic Gardens has changed drastically over the last few years. Under the leadership of a new Board of Directors, the Gardens have come back to life as a tourist destination through the renovation of the grounds, introduction of major events/festivals, and new "attractions" that continue to be added each year! Read our Newsletter to stay up on those efforts.
Friendship Botanic Gardens (a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization) is a community treasure and an oasis of formal gardens and nature trails tucked in an old-growth forest surrounding Trail Creek in Michigan City, Indiana.
Our 2018 season will certainly be one to remember. We plan on having many educational activities, the return of our annual Beer Fest and the planting of new garden areas to explore - including the official opening of the Horizon Bank Labyrinth Garden! Friendship Botanic Gardens is also one of the most beautiful settings in the Northwest Indiana/Southwest Michigan area for weddings and special events.
We can't do this alone! We need individuals invested in the future of our community and in the Gardens to bring our vision to life.
Please join us, and become an integral part of a legacy within our community. Help us continue to bloom and grow!
