Friendship Botanic Gardens is the perfect location for fun activities like cross-country skiing and running. With over 3 miles of trails spanning across our 105-acre area, we have the perfect spot for the activity of your choice. Come get your run in along our paved trails that take you through the numerous ethnic gardens, or the woodchip-covered trails that take you up the hills and through the woods, or along the grassy paths around Trail Creek and Lake Lucerne! We have a variety of surfaces to run on. Come out to Friendship Gardens and find your favorite one! It is a great spot to escape the busy roads and run in a safe place with the peace of nature surrounding you!
Don’t let the cold weather and snow keep you trapped inside. With our unpredictable weather in Northwest Indiana, Friendship Botanic Gardens is the perfect spot for cross-country skiing when we get hit with the inevitable snowfall off of Lake Michigan! Friendship Gardens is closed to the public in the winter, but members have access year-round from dawn to dusk. This gives our members a wonderful place to cross-country ski. Whether it is on the trails in the woods on our Symphony side, or around the vast open spaces and around Lake Lucerne on our Celebration side, you can find a peaceful spot to unwind and enjoy your favorite winter activity!
Our motto is “Forge a lifelong connection with nature”, and there is no better place in the Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan area! We encourage people to come out in ALL SEASONS. We are closed to the public in the winter, but our very affordable membership will give you winter access. See our membership page for more information on how to join and take advantage of our grounds ALL YEAR!
