A Spooktacular evening of family fun. Kids are invited to wear their Halloween costumes for a night of family-friendly scares set in the winding nature trails of Friendship Botanic Gardens. Visitors will have the chance to experience the Gardens when bathed in the glow of the “Trail of Lights” -- A new illuminated pathway of lampposts made possible thanks to the generous support of NIPSCO, the NiSource Foundation, and The Michigan City Redevelopment Corporation. Kids can also check out phases one and two of the ArcelorMittal Children’s Garden, a newly installed arena for interactive natural play experiences created thanks to the support of the ArcelorMittal corporation.

Friendship Botanic Gardens will host a special free educational program dedicated to everyone’s favorite pollinator pals: butterflies! Horticulturalist Dolly Foster will discuss butterfly gardening, pollinator conservation, and how you can attract these beautiful “flying flowers” to your own backyard! This is a remarkable opportunity for families to learn how to help boost butterfly populations through hands-on citizen science.

Audiences can experience live butterflies up-close as we release newly hatched monarchs into our specially designed butterfly garden. Children can make and take home free butterfly crafts.

Join us for our annual Beer and Wine festival amidst stunning vistas and formal gardens. Sample a dazzling variety of craft beers from local breweries while rocking out to live music.

Join us on the evening of Saturday, August 19, at Friendship Botanic Gardens for a Bacchus and Beer Festival!

Sample from 15 of our area's favorite breweries and wineries.

Up 'N Smoke will be on site to serve up their famous barbecue. Live entertainment throughout the evening, featuring Matt Gabriel and John Vermilye.

Enjoy the beautiful views of the Gardens and Lake Lucerne while watching the stars come out. Sample, sip, set, and sway to the music while contributing to Friendship Botanic Gardens.

This is a 21 and over event. We will offer free craft soda and water to those who are DDs.

Native American Heritage Day

Celebrate the rich and enduring legacy of Native American Heritage along the very same river banks and forested valleys where the Potawatomi hunted and fished hundreds of years ago.

Visitors will also have the chance to experience Indigenous Peoples’ traditional gardening, trapping, cooking and crafting techniques first-hand.

Families can discover a hidden world of marvelous mini-beasts living all around us while viewing live creepy crawlies.

Bring your nets and magnifying glasses to learn about the crucial roles insects play in our lives through hands-on citizen science and free children’s craft activities.

Families can check out the newest additions to the ArcelorMittal Children's Garden -- an arena for nature-based play and learning experiences created thanks to the support of the ArcelorMittal Corporation.

"Egg-stravaganza" Easter Egg Hunt

On Easter Sunday, April 16th, Friendship Botanic Gardens will host a FREE afternoon of egg- hunting adventures among 105 acres of nature trails and formal gardens. Kids ages 0 to 12 and their families are invited to walk the trails and explore the blooming gardens while searching for hundreds of eggs hidden throughout the grounds. The hunt starts promptly at 11am CDT and runs until 1pm (or until all eggs have been found.)-- rain or shine. Be sure to bring your own basket for this “Egg-stravaganza” of Easter fun.

Kids can also check out phase one of the ArcelorMittal Children’s Garden, a newly installed arena for interactive nature-based play experiences created thanks to the support of the ArcelorMittal corporation.
